Pajamas Media: "Something Stinks in California's 47th Congressional District

by the Left Coast Rebel

Last night I wrapped up an article for Pajamas Media on California's CD-47. I focused on a funny bit of news related to the Van Tran campaign, here's the opener:

Away from the face-off between the two candidates, something smells as bad as trash-truck juice on a Death Valley summer day in California’s 47th.

In search of the olfactory offense, I point the reader to a Van Tran mailer masquerading as a fragrance sampler, making its way to the mail boxes of likely voters in Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and Anaheim.

Don’t judge this book by its cover; it’s no ordinary fragrance sampler:

Note that the mailer says: “Open for a Free Sample Fragrance of: Loretta, The Scent of Washington.

You have to read the rest to see what happens when the mailer is opened! Later on in the piece I describe Van Tran campaign HQ, it's a pretty neat story:

The folks in the Van Tran campaign were a pleasant bunch. After meeting them I could sense that they are having fun (easily evidenced by the humorous mailer too), working hard, and ready to win. At the same time, I gathered that they were perfectly able and willing to go back to normal life if the election doesn’t go their way on Tuesday.

Central command for Van Tran is set up in a foreclosed Blockbuster building in Garden Grove, a city of 175,000 in northern Orange County. The building was essentially stripped of most things that one would associate with the past life of movie rentals such as shelving and other interior structures. Although the sign had been removed, the outline of the letters B-L-O-C-K-B-U-S-T-E-R were still clearly discernible on the building’s stucco exterior.

It was somewhat dirty inside, a proverbial makeshift campaign war room with folding tables set up for walk-in volunteer phone bank folks. Van Tran signs were strewn graciously and haphazardly across the walls, and there was a constant buzz of activity. The accommodations were functional but not flashy.

Please read the rest, comment, Facebook 'like' it and pass it along to friends - especially those of you that live in California. And please, above all, support Van Tran and other conservative candidates in the closing days of the 2010 midterm election.

Nothing short of the future of the nation is at stake.

Soros is ba-a-a-a-a-ck..

(Surreptitious nocturnal emission from The War Planner.)

..remember when you'd head over to your favorite blog in 2007 and 2008 and find it overrun with annoying, mindless, adolescent remarks, witty ripostes like, "I know you are, but what is BOOOOOOSH?" and "Bush = Hitler" and "Bush lied and thousands died!" and "Obama is so-o-o-o-o cool, I don't even care that he wears gold lamé bikini briefs with hashmarks!"

Well, you can expect a resurgence -- like the Plagues of Egypt, toads, lice, and flies, and boils -- now that Soros in more engaged in getting NPR correspondents fired and other chicanery.

How about this nauseating rip off of the Terminator/Running Man broadcast from the future shtick:

Moderately amusing concept but I gotta tell ya, it's typical liberal pap: paranoid and heavy handed and it probably goes on for about two minutes longer that it should.

O.K., I get it! Your world has been ruined by the evil Republicans and the evil corporations that they took over -- not like the ones Obama cashiered in 2009 at all.

What would be really delicious would be for some enterprising, skilled conservative vid tech to commander this and turn it into one of those Hitler-throwing-a-tantrum-in-his-bunker You Tube pieces.

While on the subject of plagues, I guess the only one this brings to mind is the plague of boils -- on the bum.

Foreclosure Freeze- Will it make it worse?

cross posted at What Makes Us Right

I have been talking about this for sometime now, and finally people are starting to understand.  Simply suspending foreclosures because of technicalities will eventually do more harm than good.  Delaying the inevitable and waiting to get these homes on the market cannot be good for a market that is already struggling.  Yes, foreclosed homes will be bring down the value of homes in a neighborhood, but getting these homes on the market will also stimulate new home buyers.  Which as you all should know, is key to stimulating economic growth.  Driving up home sales will ultimately lead to increases in non foreclosed home sales, which will start to restore values to some level of normalcy.  By no means will the house prices return to the bogus inflated values that we saw in the last 10 years; nor should it.  These inflated home sales are the primary cause of the troubles we are in today.  People borrowed against homes based upon ridiculous values, and now they cannot afford the bills.  Please do not blame just the banks for this.  And please do not blame George Bush.  This is a problem of society, and the lack of consumer responsibility.  We will get through this, slowly.  If you think that you are going to rich based upon the value of your home, wake up... It shouldn't have happened 10 years ago, and it is not going to happen any time soon.  However, if you want to get it going in the right direction, quit bitching about the banks and their paperwork shortcuts, man up, pay your bills, or move out, and let's get on with getting things corrected....

The thought occurred to me..

This past week, while picking over the continuing bulletins of the impending Dem debacle in NOvember, like so many, I was following the dramatic end to the 65-day saga of the trapped Chilean miners. As this saga wound down to the marvelously successful conclusion, I couldn't help but notice the presence of Chile's President, Sebastian Pinera, at the rescue sight, his   involvement in the rescue of 33 of his countrymen, and the heartwarming pictures of him embracing the miners one by one as they emerged from what could have been their tomb.

The obvious thought came to mind that this is how a president of a country should react when his citizens are in peril. "Our own" Tim Daniel has richly written on this over at Pajamas Media:

The amazing outcome of the mine crisis was not always assured. On August 5, as the news of the trapped miners reached his desk, Chilean President Sebastián Piñera faced two choices. First, to orchestrate a rescue plan in earnest but in private, out of the public and international eye. Second, to take the tragedy head-on and enlist the best and brightest, and to do so for the world to see. To take a chance in leadership, or to take the road often traveled and not.

..but not wishing to tip Tim's hand, I recommend ambling over there for a truly interesting essay on how a chief executive should act.

Ann Coulter at Her Best

Normally I (we) get a chance to hear Ann Coulter on talking-head shows where she is constantly interrupted and never allowed time to complete her thoughts on any given subject.

Well not here. A three part video series taken at one speech.

Enjoy as you will agree and have a laugh along the way!

Obama's "Hope-A-Dope" Nation

With two years left in his term, the errand boy sent by grocery clerks presides over a nation in deep and ever-growing trouble.

Through his propaganda of carefully crafted, semi-divine, yet vague and appealing buzzwords, Fearless Reader won the public's support. Now, his cult is crumbling.

Washington seeks to extend our dependence on government in perpetuity. A record forty-two million Americans are on food stamps. That's an 18% jump from 2009 and 1.4% from June 2010.

Political scientist William Voegeli's new book, "Never Enough: America's Limitless Welfare State" notes, "Liberals don't want the government to grow indefinitely. They just want it to be bigger than it is right now."

We are seeing, firsthand, that big government’s trillion-dollar stimulus programs don’t produce jobs.

The Democrats' stimulus includes "$145 billion in state and local aid to forestall austerity measures in the public sector," notes Manhattan Institute senior fellow E.J. McMahon. As private sector workers suffer layoffs, salary cuts and pay freezes, the stimulus gives raises to government employees—who increasingly dominate Big Labor, which returns the favor with cash for Democrats.

"I have no better friend in labor than AFSCME," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once said of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the U.S.' largest political campaign donor, giving over $38 million since 1990, almost all to Democrats.

The gelding who occupies the Oval Office infused federal aid to states and localities pumping up the paychecks of heavily unionized public employees who already earn more, on average, than the people who pay their salaries.

Finally, lower cost was the campaign promise of ObamaCare, but as Medicare actuaries confirmed, it will increase healthcare costs. The president's government takeover has already begun to boost private health insurance premiums and all we’ve seen to date is the tip of the iceberg. Still more frightening—there are two more years left in this president-in-training’s term.

May God have mercy on this nation.

The Audacity Of Hope

The Fleeing Seal

BREAKING: 89,000 Bogus Stimulus Checks Sent To Jailbait And Dead People

The Social Security Administration, the agency was charged with distributing one-time payments, sent about 89,000 bogus stimulus checks of $250 each to dead and jailed people according to a new inspector-general’s report.

The report said that of these payments, about 55,000, were sent because the recipients had died recently, and the Social Security Administration had not been informed of their deaths by states, families or funeral homes at the time the payments were sent. The remaining 17,000 of the mistaken payments were attributed to the Social Security Administration failing to properly process death records that it did have. The combined total of the bogus payments totals an astounding $22.3 million.

The Social Security Administration says that the stimulus package didn’t include a provision allowing it to try to retrieve funds that were mistakenly sent out, so it can’t try to retrieve the money.

A long-time campaigner against waste, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) said, “This report highlights the broader problems with the Recovery Act itself. At a time like now, when nearly $350 billion in waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government annually has been reported and our national debt closing in on $13.5 trillion, these findings represent the epitome of congressional stupidity and a total disregard for accountability.”

Barbara Boxer: Outsourcer of jobs in California..

Babs ponders life.
..aside from arrogance and condescension, this women has been an absolute drag on the economy of the state of California when it comes to wrong-headed representation and advocacy in D. C. An Investor's Business Daily article enunciates some of Senator Dim Bulb's wondrous achievements. In poo-pooing the only thing Boxer uses against Carly Fiorina -- her presiding over HP at the time when the company laid off 30,000 workers -- they say:

Sen. Barbara Boxer thinks she's struck election gold in California by charging her rival, ex-CEO Carly Fiorina, with outsourcing. The real story is how Boxer has chased millions of jobs out of state with her politics.

Last Wednesday's radio debate between California's two senatorial candidates repeatedly circled the issue of jobs in a state with 12.4% unemployment, second highest in the nation.

Incumbent Boxer's trump card was that her opponent, while chief of Hewlett-Packard from 1999 to 2006, outsourced jobs. "She laid off 30,000 workers, shipped jobs overseas and says she's proud of her record — well, that's her record," said Boxer.

Problem is, Boxer is a far bigger outsourcer. The unemployment rate in her state is 25% higher than the national average of 9.4%, and the number of jobless Californians is 66% higher than when she took office 17 years ago. Her 90% liberal voting record based on National Journal data has much to do with it. Some of her biggest job-killing votes include:
  • The $787 billion stimulus package. Advertised in 2009 as necessary to "create or save" jobs and cap the national jobless rate at 8%, California unemployment soared to 12.4% by 2010 from 7.8% in 2008, as California posted its biggest job losses since 1940. That's a million jobs lost in this recession, according to the University of the Pacific, even as states like Texas with free-market policies gain jobs and draw investment. It's outsourcing on a grand scale.
  • The corporate tax. Boxer claimed in Wednesday's debate that she wants to "incentivize" U.S. companies not to ship jobs overseas. Maybe she was referring to her yes vote on S. 3816, which ends the tax deferral for multinational firms. The idea was to hike taxes on companies' overseas operations so they would hire more here. Instead, we've "incentivized" companies to move headquarters and jobs to low-tax countries. Even the Democrat-led Senate knew it was a job killer. Boxer didn't.
  • Free trade. In the debate, Boxer patronizingly said Mexico was important to California because it was a top trading partner. No kidding. California's economy is steeped in foreign trade, accounting for 11.4% of U.S. exports, which underperforms its 14% slice of the economy.
  • Maybe that's because Boxer has steadfastly kept California out of foreign trade. She opposed NAFTA with Mexico and Canada in 1993 and continues to oppose all free trade. She voted no on trade deals with some of the state's most logical, natural trading partners — Singapore, Chile, Peru, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica, to name a few.

the article goes on to describe how Boxer's radical environmental stance has caused the limitation of off-shore drilling and helped choke off water to the California's Central Valley:

As water was cut to the southwest Central Valley in 2007, unemployment rates rose above 16% in Fresno and as high as 40% in Mendota; agricultural operations fled to Mexico. Mendota's jobless farmworkers were reduced to accepting charity food from China — outsourcing that came because of Boxer's vote.

The article concludes:

With a record like hers, is it any wonder that Boxer's hometown newspaper refused to endorse her?

The senator's long, inept and counterproductive record in politics has left California poorer, less competitive and less employed than ever. If anyone should avoid throwing around charges like outsourcing, it's Barbara Boxer.

..can I get an amen?

Einstein was a genius..

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
~Albert Einstein, (attributed)

Babs, Giving California the Finger
Let's prove his hypothesis, shall we?

I contend that [a majority of] California voters are insane. As an offer of proof, I submit the repeated re-election of the crop of Democrat politicians (with the help of a neutered and impotent California GOP) who have driven this state over the cliff , perpetuating perpetuate themselves in office with the help of their public-service, teachers', and labor union buddies.

Want further proof? How about Barbara Boxer? They have repeatedly restored this woman to power since 1982 when she was elected to the House of Representatives. The zone-oids who propelled her to DC did it again when she was elected to the Senate ten years later to Alan "The Cadaver" Cranston's seat in 1992. She has pulled a hat-trick to stay there 18 years and has partied with the group that has dragged this state down over that time.

Supposedly one of the two wunderkind-ettes elected that to the California senate seats she has been a virtual cypher in the Senate, emerging only to scold a general for not addressing her as 'Senator' and trying to patronize Harry Alford, the president and CEO of the Black Chamber of Commerce. Both of these videos can be found all over the web but the chastisement by Alford is particularly instructive because it shows the other side of this woman's elitist condescension. Notice how she rambles on and on and on, not listening to Alford.

I got a hot flash for all of you out there who are leaners: if she doesn't listen to the wishes and statements a CEO then she sure as hell does not care what's on all of your minds. Do ya follow?

..yet the California voters repeatedly re-elect this arrogant, elitist woman to her post.

Idiocy? Works for me!

Video: "One Nation" 10-2 March - Incredibly Trashy (PHOTO UPDATE)

I for one did not watch this event and subsequently did not intend on posting on it either until I came across this video from secularstupidest. Their words and video sum it up for me.

Some Mexican tourists walking next to the Lincoln Memorial grounds were disgusted by the amount of filth and trash covering the mall.

Reflections:

1. The Leftists are very willing to "kill trees" and clutter nature in order to spread their message.
2. The participants of the march, with exceptions of course, when they were done with food, or decided they did not want literature, dropped their litter.
3. We saw a total of two "rank and file" event participants doing any clean-up.
4. The Left's methods of communication are very "old school", using tracts, pamphlets, books, etc. The Patriot Movement, in contrast, while having just as much scholarship and writing, is almost entirely paperless and online.

Great photo contrast on the size of this event I found over at Old Retired Petty Officer:

Aerial views: Beck 'Restoring Honor' on top and the 'One Nation' below.

PHOTO UPDATE

CP reader/commentor George submitted a photo that he titled "Featured Speaker" and it really brings the event into focus, I have given it extra treatment but George gets the credit. Thank You Sir!

We have been asking for it for 2 years.  We blogged about is just a few weeks ago!  Now our wishes may be coming soon.   Rumors out of Washington are that Gibsy will be following Rahm out of the White House.  According to reports, Gibsy is being considered to chair the DNC! (who even chairs it now???)  At this point, I will take anything to get him off of my TV screen.  Besides, this guy has already pissed off the professional left, I think they will make a perfect fit!

Just a reminder of those who have already given up on O'bummer!

  • Van Jones, Special Adviser for Green Jobs
  • Mark Lippert, Deputy National Security Adviser

All Red in the mall..

Our buds on the left had their turn in Washington. A rally of..what? The AP describes the gathering in its article:

More than 400 organizations — ranging from labor unions to faith, environmental and gay rights groups — partnered for the event, which comes one month after Beck packed the same space with conservatives and tea party-style activists.

Organizers claimed they had as many participants as Beck's rally. But Saturday's crowds were less dense and didn't reach as far to the edges as they did during Beck's rally. The National Park Service stopped providing official crowd estimates in the 1990s.

Well, if you'd like to get an idea of the type of participants and perhaps a glimpse of the crowd size, here's a tongue-in-cheek vid that AFP put out on You Tube:

I have been all over the net and cannot seem to find many pictures which gives a clear idea of the participation -- none of those overhead shots like those of the Tea Party assemblages. You know, the ones where the park service and other organizations kept claiming the milling throngs were "in the hundreds" or "in the thousands" in their wild-eyed and frantic attempt to downplay intensity and fervor.

One would think if the turnout were substantial, then the satellite pics and airborne shots would be plastered all over the net.

I did find one showing the aftermath of the gathering:

Eerily reminiscent of the detritus strewn about after the Obama Coronation. For a shocking comparison of the inauguration and the Glenn Beck rally earlier this summer, head over to LiveLeak.
